Iris Berger is a 22-year-old biologist and National Geographic Young Explorer.

Her previous research expeditions include a study of chimpanzee diet and tool-use in two Ugandan forests for her bachelor thesis; and a 500km “mega-transect” across the Indonesian island of Sumatra, to ascertain the impact of deforestation on avian biodiversity.

She graduated in 2018 with a first-class honours in Biological Sciences (Ecology) from the University of Edinburgh, and is currently on a six month internship with the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya.
